Concert of OKTOICH Male Choir of St. Kirill and Methodius Orthodox Church in Wroclaw, Poland

The choir was formed in September 1991. Drawing on the centuries of musical traditions of the Orthodox Church, its repertoire ranges from 9th century Byzantine chants to contemporary music. The choir has appeared at leading festivals, including the Hajnówka Festival of Orthodox Music, the Czestochowa Gaude Mater festival, in Moscow, Ostrava, Munich, Berlin and elsewhere. In 2001 the Oktoich choir represented Poland at the Europalia events in Brussels, at the Polish Culture Day in Moscow, and in 2002, at the international Early Music Festival in France (at Ligugé near Poitiers). They regularly sing at Orthodox Church feasts, including outstanding events attended by the Bartolomeo I Patriarch of Constantinople, Alexei II Patriarch of Moscow, or Pope John Paul II. In 2002 the choir won the Saint Albert Prize.
The Oktoich Choir integrates into its performances the findings of its research on questions of musical history, liturgical history, notation and interpretation.
