ROŻA / Rózsa /ROSE (98')

Róża (Rose), is the story of the relationship between the eponymous Rose, (played by Agata Kulesza), the Mazurian widow of a German Wehrmacht soldier, and Tadeusz, a former member of the Polish Home Army, whose wife had been killed in the Warsaw Uprising. The background to the film is the brutal explusion of an obscure Slav ethnic group, the Mazurians, from their homeland in East Prussia, (now Poland).

CZARNY CZWARTEK/ Fekete csütörtök/ BLACK THURSDAY (105')
Film reconstruction of the dramatic events which took place on Thursday, Deccember 17, 1970, in Gdynia when a workers' demonstration against the increase in food prices was brutally pacified by the army and the militia (police). As a result, 18 people were killed and few hundred were injured. A factual story of an ordinary family of Brunon Drywa, a shipyard worker, who was shot by policemen on his way to work.

80 MILIONOW / 80 millió /80 Million (105')

A film about the struggle against communism. Wrocław, 1981. The events depicted in the film took place ten days before martial law was introduced in Poland. Władysław Frasyniuk, then leader of the regional Solidarity, along with four colleagues, withdrew 80 million of the organization's money out of the bank. The money was later used to build the underground resistance movement.

Brothers Alfred and Jurek witness a helpless girl being mugged on a suburban train. Jurek stands up for her, while Alfred holds back. He later tries to cover up the truth at all costs.

Paweł is the son of a 'Solidarity' activist in Silesia. His wife is Ewa the daughter of a miner who had been killed during mine strike riots under communism. One day a photo of Paweł's father is published in a paper. He is accused of having collaborated with the communist secret police in the 1980s (with "The Mole" as his code name), and of having informed on his collegues during the strike.

Poland's winning battle against Soviet Russia as seen through the eyes of two young protagonists, Ola and Jan. She is a Warsaw cabaret dancer, while he is a cavalry officer and poet who believes in socialist ideals.

Born in 1932. One of Poland's most acclaimed directors and screenwriters. Made his debut in 1955 with Uwaga, chuligani (Look Out, Hooligans!), one in a series of black documentaries, which he co-directed with Edward Skórzewski. Directed almost thirty documentary films. Made film versions of many acclaimed Polish novels, including the trilogy by Henryk Sienkiewicz, "Trędowata" by Helena Mniszkówna, "Znachor" by Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz, and "Stara Baśń" by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski.vendég: Jerzy Hoffman, a film rendezője
