Platan Gallery invites you for the opening of ŁUKASZ STOKŁOSA’s and TOMEK BARAN’s “DOUBLE” show. The exhibition presents juxtaposed works of two of the most interesting young generation polish artists. Stokłosa creates his paintings in noire aesthetic, with strong reference to the tradition of european painting, at the same time interpreting themes from popular culture. His works will be placed on display in a perverse dialogue with abstract works by Baran that are more focused on the formal search. This dialogue will allow viewers to look at this paintings in a new way, analyse one through the other. Focused on materiality Baran’s paintings will distil reflections on the structure of the image in the Stokłosa works. The romantic pictures by Stokłosa will emphasize the presence of mood in the Baran’s works which undertake meta reflection on images. The viewer will be able to combine threads that are common for both artists and differences appearing through the physical proximity of compiled works. The artists use completely different means of expression and different methods of painting but concomitantly their art is connected by recurring motifs - existing in their paintings reflection, mainly on the space. Referring to the title of the exhibition, the public will be able to see “double” - taken from two different angles - reflection on the nature of contemporary painting.

ŁUKASZ STOKŁOSA
Born in 1986 in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. In 2010 he graduated from The Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and immediately was invited to the group show “Ars Homo Erotica” in Warsaw. His first solo exhibition "Zimowa opowiesc" took place at Zderzak in 2011 and revealed a typical for the artist atmosphere of romanticism and decadence: palace`s interiors, winter landscapes and portraits of movie actors as historical figures. On the similar mood was held his second solo exhibition "The Composition of Paintings" (2013, Zderzak Gallery), which attracted many art lovers and collectors. In 2013 he received an Award of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship`s Marshal at Eugeniusz Geppert Competition.
Stokłosa`s inspiration comes from mass culture: B movies, television series, and pornography. His pictures are sensual and intelligent, they allure and repel, they have multiple false bottoms, just like any good noir film. His pictures and spatial objects have already found their way into many private collections. //Galeria Zderzak//
